Kakadu National Park – Road and Access Report 17 September 2014

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to cultural reasons the Cultural Activities in the East Alligator Region are cancelled until further notice.

  • Road upgrades currently occurring up to 2 Mile Hole - there may be short delays
  • Road upgrades to commence on the Maguk road at the first creek crossing from Tuesday 16 September.
  • No water available at West Alligator Head – please take all water with you.
  • Goymarr (Mary River Roadhouse) is closed, only Campground is operating, there is a caretaker working on site. Last fuel stop Pine Creek or Cooinda (150km apart).

Drivers should be aware of the potential presence of crocodiles in water crossings in Kakadu National Park — Do not enter the water and stay inside the vehicle at all times while crossing water bodies in vehicles.

THINGS TO DO IN KAKADU!

Check out Gubara (unsealed road), a 6km return walk past sandstone cliffs to shady monsoon forest pools. A pleasant place to spend the heat of the day! Please observe warning signage.

Aboriginal rock art fan?  Take the 3.4 km return walk to Nanguluwur art site!  This quiet site is an easy walk through woodlands and a must for those seeking out amazing rock art.

Arnhem Highway Open Please note there are currently roadworks in various sections between Bark Hut Inn and Humpty Doo, also from Bark Hut Inn to the Pt Stuart turnoff.  Motorists are advised to heed all traffic control.
Kakadu Highway Open Please note there is no fuel available at Goymarr Road House, you can purchase fuel in Pine Creek or Cooinda Lodge. There have been buffalo sightings on the highway at the southern end of the park, please drive with care.
