Gubara will closed Thursday 2nd October due to Wildfire suppression Operations.
Gunlom plunge pool and Ikoymarrwa ( lower Moline Rockhole) are closed to swimming- we have received reports of possible crocodile sightings in these areas.
Park staff are taking all precautions and surveys will be carried out tonight and again tomorrow morning.
We will keep you updated. In the mean time, both areas are open but under no circumstances should people enter the water.
Visitors to the park are advised to stay vigilant around waterways and always keep a safe distance to the water’s edge.
Due to cultural reasons some ranger activities in the East Alligator Region may not go ahead. Please check with Bowali Visitor Centre for details.
- Barrk Sandstone and Barrk Malam bushwalks will close 6 October due to extreme heat.
- Road upgrades occurring on the Maguk road at the first creek crossing from Tuesday 16 September. Visitors may experience short delays.
- Twin Falls will be closed from Monday 6 October 2014 for pre-wet season road upgrades. For further details please contact 08 8938 1107.
- No water available at West Alligator Head – please take all water with you.
- Goymarr (Mary River Roadhouse) is closed, only Campground is operating, there is a caretaker working on site. Last fuel stop Pine Creek or Cooinda (150km apart).
Drivers should be aware of the potential presence of crocodiles in water crossings in Kakadu National Park — Do not enter the water and stay inside the vehicle at all times while crossing water bodies in vehicles.
Check out Gubara (unsealed road), a 6km return walk past sandstone cliffs to shady monsoon forest pools. A pleasant place to spend the heat of the day! Please observe warning signage.
