Kakadu National Park – Road and Access Report 25th November 2014

Please be reminded that as of 1 December 2014 opening hours to Ubirr will revert to our wet season schedule.  The site will be accessible from 2pm until sunset.

  • Rangers have now re-opened the Gubara area for walking. Swimming at Gubara is not permitted . Please stay on marked tracks and observe all warning signs. Estuarine crocodiles can move into waterways undetected at any time. For sightings and concerns, please report to the Bowali Visitor Centre 08 8938 1120
  • Maintenance works continue on the Gunlom Road. The area is open but visitors may experience short delays as road trains ferry gravel into the area.  Please take care.

Take your binoculars and head out to the Mamukala bird hide – a serene and peaceful encounter overlooking the wetlands in a purpose-built shaded observation platform. An interpretive mural illustrates the seasonal changes that occur through the year.

For more wetlands, venture to Anbangbang Billabong. Picnic tables provide a perfect spot for afternoon tea to see Kakadu’s renowned  bird life, or walk in from the Nawurlandja carpark with Nourlangie escarpment providing an impressive backdrop.

Drivers should be aware of the potential presence of crocodiles in water crossings in Kakadu National Park — Do not enter the water and stay inside the vehicle at all times while crossing water bodies in vehicles.
