Kakadu National Park – Road and Access Report 29 August 2014

PLEASE NOTE:

 Roadworks have commenced on the Old Jim Jim Road.

Gunlom Campground, day use area and walk to the top pool are now open.  For visitors with breathing difficulties, please be advised the area is still quite smokey..

There have been buffalo sightings in the Mary River Region, please drive with care.

The Mary River Roadhouse is closed, only Campground is operating, there is a caretaker working on site.  Last fuel stop Pine Creek or Cooinda (150km apart).

Drivers should be aware of the potential presence of crocodiles in water crossings in Kakadu National Park — Do not enter the water and stay inside the vehicle at all times while crossing water bodies in vehicles.

Explore Nourlangie and spend some time marvelling at the timeless rock art and ancient Aboriginal shelter on this 1.5km circular walk.

Combine your visit to Nourlangie Rock with a climb to Nawurlandja Lookout for spectacular views of Nourlangie, the Arnhemland escarpment and Anbangbang Billabong.

Arnhem Highway Open Please note there are currently roadworks in various sections between Bark Hut Inn and Humpty Doo, also from Bark Hut Inn to the Pt Stuart turnoff.  Motorists are advised to heed all traffic control.
Kakadu Highway Open Please note there is no fuel available at Goymarr Road House, you can purchase fuel in Pine Creek or Cooinda Lodge. There have been buffalo sightings on the highway at the southern end of the park, please drive with care.
