Kakadu National Park – Road and Access Report 22nd December 2014

PLEASE NOTE:.

Cahills Crossing is now open, 0.2m of water over the causeway.
Due to recent rainfall places may close at short notice due to flash flooding.

We will continue to provide regular updates via our road report. Alternatively contact our Bowali Visitor Centre for the latest park updates, and advice on great places to visit in the wet.

  • 4 Mile Hole Billabong has now closed. 2 Mile Hole Billabong is still accessible by 4WD only.
  • Home Billabong Walk – Has now closed due to rising water levels and Crocodile safety risk.
  • From 1st December 2014 Ubirr will be accessible from 2pm until sunset.
  • Yurmikmik Walks and Kambolgie Campground are still accessible 4WD only
  • Tour operator licences are currently being offered for sports fishing, bushwalking, safari camps at Gunlom and Merl and access to Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge).  We invite all interested tour operators to apply by 31 January 2015. With recent storm activity, localised flooding can occur across roads.  Drivers should be aware of fast flowing water and the potential presence of crocodiles in water crossings in Kakadu National Park — Do not enter the water and stay inside the vehicle at all times while crossing water bodies in vehicles.

Arnhem Highway Open Please note there are currently road works in various sections between Bark Hut Inn and Humpty Doo, also from Bark Hut Inn to the Pt Stuart turnoff. Motorists are advised to heed all traffic control.
Kakadu Highway Open Please note there is no fuel available at Goymarr Road House, you can purchase fuel in Pine Creek or Cooinda Lodge. There have been buffalo sightings on the highway at the southern end of the park, please drive with care.
Old Jim Jim Road Closed Due to recent heavy rain making river crossings impassable.
South Alligator region
Mamukala wetlands Open Bird hide is open. 3km wetlands walk remains closed due to wildfires.
Gungarre Walk Open
Red Lily Billabong Closed Currently closed as rangers assess the track after recent heavy rain.
Bucket Billabong Closed Road is inaccessible due to the effects of heavy rain.  Closed as of 4/12/14.
Alligator Billabong Closed Road is inaccessible due to the effects of heavy rain.  Closed as of 4/12/14.
